Historic First Year of Issue

The very first $50 Gold American Eagle.  The Gold American Eagles are the most popular and widely collected gold coins in the United States. First year issues are highly sought after by collectors and investors worldwide. Part of what makes this year so highly desirable is the fact that the date is displayed in Roman Numerals (MCMLXXXVI). The United States Mint only did this for the first six years of the Gold American Eagle Program.

Each 1986 $50 Gold American Eagle has been hand-selected to ensure premium quality. All 1986 $50 Gold Eagles are not created equal, nor are they handled equally. Gold American Eagles are frequently mishandled by collectors and dealers alike, especailly the Gold American Eagles struck in the late 80s and early 90s. Mishandling can lead to fingerprints, dings, scratches and other unsightly blemishes. A coins quality is everything and we will settle for nothing less than pristine.
