Historic California Gold struck in Philadelphia
A Top 100 U.S. Coin. Only 1,389 Made!

“Eureka!”

It was just one word emblazoned at the top of every newspaper across the country that got wind of the discovery of gold in California. That one word would produce one of the greatest population migrations in history to the Golden Coast in search of the new American dream.

Some of the first specie of gold pulled from the California foothills was sent on to the Philadelphia Mint to be specially struck into Quarter Eagles. It is the only time that “CAL.” has ever been added to a coin, commemorating the discovery of gold in California.

Cal Mark

This was one of the most historic moments in the country’s history. Indeed, the pages of our textbooks would read far differently today if not for the California Gold Rush.

A coin no great collection is ever complete without and no true connoisseur of gold coinage could ever think to forego.
