Date Analysis
1904-O $10 Gold Liberty
Mintage: 108,950
Census (NGC/PCGS): 1,719
Survival %: 1.58%
Smithsonian Example: MS60
The 1904-O has the second-highest mintage for a New Orleans Eagle. However, this issue has a relatively low survival rate of just 1.58%. Most 1904-O examples are graded between AU-55 and MS-62, and MS-63 or better examples are very scarce and have proven to be very challenging for collectors to acquire.
It is important to note that most 1904-O Eagles are found with heavily abraded surfaces. Mint-State examples with pleasing surfaces can be acquired by collectors who have some patience. However, those specimens will typically sell for a premium compared to other less eye-appealing examples.
