The New Orleans Mint produced more Eagles in 1903 than it did in any other year. However, the 1903-O $10 Gold Liberty is far from being considered a common date Eagle. Although a mintage of 112,771 coins is extremely low for an Eagle, the 1903-O is the most readily available New Orleans Mint Eagle. Over the last decade, large quantities of never-circulated coins have been found in overseas bank vaults. This makes the 1903-O a popular issue with type coin collectors as specimens up to MS63 are often more available than other New Orleans Mint issues.

Most surviving examples of this date are found in About-Uncirculated to MS63 grade. MS64 specimens can be very challenging to locate for collectors, and gem specimens, MS65 or better, are unique.
